Amalia

Amalia is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Melbourne, whose music has quickly captured the attention of listeners with its blend of indie-rock, captivating storytelling, and a touch of mystical nostalgia. With an infectious passion for her craft, her sound encompasses everything from cinematic highs to gut-wrenching lows, offering something for everyone. Raised on a musical diet of Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones, Amalia grew up with her father playing iconic albums in the car, where she would belt out her favourite songs in the backseat. She credits this time as the foundation for her deep love of music, often imagining herself as Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, or even Taylor Swift, depending on the mood.

We recently sat down with here to talk!

Her journey into music began with the desire to create songs that do more than just entertain—they summon, heal, and linger in the hearts of listeners. Influenced by legends like Fleetwood Mac, Adele, and the raw strength of their storytelling, Amalia strives to craft music that moves people. Whether she’s tapping into a vulnerable ballad or channeling bold rock anthems, her songwriting resonates with the experiences of growing up and navigating life’s challenges, including the trials of the pandemic. Her evolution from soft, introspective piano-driven melodies to powerful, energetic rock tracks speaks to her growing confidence and a clear shift toward indie-rock with vintage soul.

Collaborating with her co-writer and producer, Julian Schweitzer, has been key to shaping her sound. The two initially crossed paths in the same studio in Collingwood, often exchanging knowing glances through the window, before eventually joining forces for a creative session. The bond that followed turned into a powerful musical partnership and, more importantly, a deep friendship. Their collaborative process is as organic as it is spontaneous—Amalia's creative approach often involves an existential crisis followed by a late-night songwriting session, experimenting with every instrument at her disposal, and ultimately finding magic in the chaos.

One of the most exciting aspects of Amalia’s career so far has been the release of her music into the world, including four singles, three sold-out headline shows, and an electrifying reception from fans. Her first single, "Electric Rush," captures the raw energy she brings to the stage, with a driving chorus and anthemic hooks that immediately draw listeners in. For Amalia, performing this song feels as exhilarating as the first time she ever played it, and it’s become a fan favourite.

In addition to her original works, Amalia draws inspiration from some of her favourite artists, imagining herself metaphorically borrowing their "hats" during performances. When she needs to tap into raw power, she channels Florence Welch's untamed energy. For moments of storytelling and mystery, she slips into Stevie Nicks' world. And when it’s time to summon confidence, she channels the unapologetic stage presence of icons like Freddie Mercury and Prince.

As she continues to make waves in the music scene, Amalia is focused on pushing boundaries and expanding her reach. The internet, with its ability to instantly connect artists with fans around the world, has played a crucial role in her journey, but she also acknowledges the challenges that come with it. The fast-paced nature of viral trends means that sometimes music’s true depth is lost in the shuffle. Yet, she remains optimistic, believing that music always finds the people who need it most.

Looking ahead, Amalia is gearing up for more music, more performances, and more adventures. She’s heading to New York for co-writing sessions, soaking in the city's energy, and indulging in a few too many bagels along the way. Fans can expect her next single to drop in April, and a headline launch show in June promises to bring even more excitement to the live music scene. In her own words, "Look Alive" is a nostalgic anthem for anyone who's ever chased their dreams, leaving the past behind and charging full speed ahead into the unknown. Inspired by the soaring vocals of Kate Bush and the neon glow of Chappell Roan, the track exudes rebellion, euphoria, and a touch of bittersweet yearning. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a summer drive with the windows down.

For Amalia, the future is filled with endless possibilities, and she’s ready to take up space and make her mark on the world. As she tells her fans: "Be loud. Take up space. Feel everything fully."
