Ashlie Skye

Over the past few weeks, Ashlie Skye’s music has been a constant presence on my Spotify, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have discovered her. From the moment her tracks started playing, I was hooked—not just by the sound, but by the depth of her artistry. There’s a remarkable intelligence woven into her music, a clarity and precision that make every note and lyric feel intentional. Her songs are sharp, defined, and yet they carry such an emotional rawness, diving straight into the heart of real, unfiltered stories. Each track feels like a reflection of her inner world—brutally honest, beautifully crafted, and unapologetically real. As I’ve spent more time with her work, I’ve found myself continuously amazed by how she balances vulnerability with strength, making music that’s not just heard, but felt deeply.

An Interview with Ashlie Skye

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, my family moved countries every three years, and music became my one constant. No matter where we were, it was my safe space—a way to reconnect with myself when everything else around me felt uncertain. Music was the thread that tied all my experiences together, and I’ve always seen it as a way to make sense of the world.

Being based in London, how’s the music scene there for you?

I absolutely love the London music scene. There's an incredible energy here—everyone’s so eager to connect and collaborate. Before I moved here, I lived in some really rural areas, so being in a city like London, which is so full of life and creativity, is something I definitely don’t take for granted. I’m lucky to live in a green, quiet part of the city too, which is a perfect balance to the hustle of it all.

Let’s talk about your new EP! What was the writing process like? What did you hope to achieve with it? And how has the response been so far?

This new EP represents a huge shift for me, both musically and personally. I went through a big internal transformation and realised I wanted to be much more intentional with the messages I’m sharing. Music is something that lasts, a legacy, and I want to leave behind songs that make people feel loved and uplifted. The writing process was all about picking songs that had the potential to help others heal or feel a moment of brightness—like the sun shining on their face. So far, the response has been amazing. I’ve connected with so many people online who are really excited about the project, and the energy is incredible. It feels like there’s a real craving for more optimistic music in the folk/pop space, and I think the soulful, positive vibe of the new tracks is resonating with people.

What about live performances—what are your plans for the future?

I’m really looking forward to performing more this year, hopefully with a full band. I’m also planning to do some of my own shows, which is something I’ve always dreamed of. The thought of sharing my music live and connecting with people face-to-face is super exciting.

What’s the best and worst thing about being in the industry?

The best thing is how easy it is to make genuine connections. At “work,” it’s effortless to meet people, make friends, and form strong bonds—collaborating with like-minded individuals is one of the best parts of the job. On the flip side, the worst thing is how cerebral everything can be. There’s no autopilot mode if you want to be great at this; it’s all-consuming. You have to give 100% all the time, which can lead to burnout. But at the same time, that’s what keeps you present and fully immersed in the process, so I love it for that reason too.

Your song "God Complex" has a staggering 460,000 plays—no surprise, it’s a masterpiece. How did it come about?

"God Complex" was actually my first single. I had been writing and recording demos for years but never really shared them, because it always felt like something personal—just for me. One day, people close to me suggested I try sharing something on TikTok. I resisted at first, but eventually, I gave in and posted "God Complex." And here we are! I never expected it to blow up like it did, but the response has been amazing.

Here’s something a little unexpected—tell us something you’ve never shared with your fans!

I used to be a swimmer, and I’ve recently gotten back into it. I’m swimming every day now, and it’s SO much fun! It feels great to reconnect with that part of myself.

Dream collaboration?

It would have to be Frank Ocean, Berlioz, or Leon Bridges. Each of them brings such a unique perspective to music, and I’d love to see what magic could happen in a collaboration.

What’s next for you?

I’m already working on a new EP! I’m really excited about where the music is heading and can’t wait to share more with everyone soon.
