Discovering Belgravia:
When I first stumbled upon Belgravia, I was immediately hooked. From the moment Jordan’s legendary voice hit my ears, I knew I’d found something special. His voice has that rare quality that many pop-punk bands strive for—distinct, powerful, and brimming with energy. With catchy melodies and unique shifts in tone, it was an instant ear-worm. It felt reminiscent of the first time I discovered bands like ‘Hit the Lights’ and ‘Four Year Strong’—that perfect blend of upbeat punk and heartfelt emotion. The tone of the riffs in particular grabbed me right from the start, taking me back to the roots of pop-punk where it all began.
What sets Belgravia apart, though, is their songwriting. The structure of each track is intelligent, thoughtful, and undeniably catchy. They’ve mastered the art of balancing memorable licks, lyrics that make you want to hit rewind, and breakdowns that hit hard—leaving you gurning and throwing yourself into a dusty circle pit. The band’s debut EP, Evergreen, is a 10/10 for me. It’s everything I look for in a pop-punk band—raw energy, tight musicianship, and a sound that feels both fresh and familiar.
Perhaps my love for this band is influenced by my pop-punk roots, but even so, there’s no denying that Belgravia are the real deal. They aren’t afraid to be themselves, and the moment the Evergreen EP starts, you know you’re in for something special. From the very first track, I could already picture the band tearing it up live. ‘Is This Up By You’ would be the perfect opener, with that last note ringing out before the chaos of the next track. And when Jordan’s voice finally makes its appearance in the second track, you’re hit with one of those "holy sh*t" moments—absolutely electric.
But for me, the standout track is ‘Insert Coin’. The opening grabbed me right away, and it’s in this song that Belgravia truly shows their full potential. After the intro, they dive headfirst into a powerful blend of melodies and hard-hitting riffs, making it clear that this band is here to stay. Belgravia doesn’t just write songs—they craft anthems. And the Evergreen EP is one of those releases you’ll find yourself playing on repeat for months.
The Recording Process and Evolution of Their Sound
With four singles and their debut EP ‘Evergreen’ released in 2023, Belgravia has already made a big impression on the music scene. Despite being relatively new, the band’s sound is already tight, polished, and full of confidence. Jordan attributes this to the band’s collective experience. "We’re all seasoned musicians in our own right," he says. "We’ve all been in multiple bands growing up, so we’ve had plenty of time to hone our craft. Going into the studio, we knew we were going to bring something fresh, but we also had a strong foundation to build on."
When it came time to record ‘Evergreen’, the band knew they were entering the studio with something special. "We didn’t know exactly what our sound would be going in, but we knew it would definitely sit in the pop-punk realm," Jordan shares. "We all have different influences, and that helps shape what Belgravia sounds like. We have a broad range of influences, from heavier punk and rock to indie and pop. It all comes together in a way that feels natural."
The band’s sound is a mix of classic pop-punk energy with modern twists and intricate songwriting, making it stand out in the crowded genre. Their debut EP features infectious hooks, relatable lyrics, and a mix of melodic and gritty moments that showcase their diverse influences.
“We would play that album on repeat, and through it, we discovered our love for rock and rap. I knew it was what I wanted to do when I grew up.”
Belgravia
I recently had the chance to sit down with Jordan, the lead singer of the rising pop-punk outfit Belgravia, to talk about the band’s origins, their musical influences, and what’s next for this powerhouse. For a band that’s only four singles and one EP deep, Belgravia has already established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Australian scene. Their sound is polished, intelligent, and brimming with energy, a testament to the experience they’ve built over the years.
ROOTS
Jordan's journey into music is rooted in a household where music was more than just a hobby—it was a way of life. Born and raised in Kalgoorlie for the first decade of his life, Jordan moved to Perth and spent his teenage years in the Perth hills. From an early age, he was immersed in different genres of music, thanks to his parents’ varied tastes. His dad introduced him to R&B, funk, and soul, while his mum brought him up on classic rock and country. Coming from a Polynesian background, Jordan was also surrounded by a singing family, which only deepened his love for music.
By the age of five, Jordan was already tagging along with his dad to the local karaoke nights, but it was the release of Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory that would have a life-changing impact. "My brother and I were instantly obsessed with it," Jordan recalls. "We would play that album on repeat, and through it, we discovered our love for rock and rap. I knew it was what I wanted to do when I grew up."
The Evolution of Jordan's Voice
Jordan’s voice is undoubtedly one of the defining features of Belgravia. It’s raw, distinct, and full of emotion, reminding me very much of bands such as ‘Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!’ And ‘Coheed and Cambria’ but it hasn’t always been this way. He explains that his early influences were far from the pop-punk scene. "I started off singing Michael Jackson, Usher, Earth, Wind & Fire—those kinds of artists," he says. "But as I got older, my brother and I delved into heavier rock, metal, and darker rap styles. That’s when I started developing my voice, especially with screaming."
Jordan’s first band, ‘Our Last Hope’, was a post-hardcore project where he learned the ropes of screaming and pushing his voice to new limits. "At the time, my biggest influences were ADTR, Asking Alexandria, and Enter Shikari," Jordan shares. "Now, I feel more in my element singing with a pop/R&B style, but I still use the techniques I learned in my earlier years to add a rough, 'gravelly' edge to complement Belgravia's pop-punk aesthetic. I love mixing it up—blending rapping, screaming, and singing to keep our music fresh and unpredictable."
The Birth of Belgravia
Belgravia came together in mid-2022 when two of the founding members, Brock Jeffries (drums) and Brendan Stainsby (bass), began playing around with ideas. Initially, they were thinking about starting a Ghost cover band but quickly pivoted to original music. "I was on holiday in Darwin when Brock hit me up," Jordan explains. "He asked if I was still singing and wanted to come jam. I'd been doing R&B and pop for the past ten years, but I thought, 'Why not?'"
That jam session led to the creation of Belgravia’s first single, "Inhale, In Hell," and the band’s sound began to take shape. As they continued to write, Marina ‘Maz’ Claire (lead guitar) joined the band, and the lineup was solidified with the addition of Ryan Ebbs (rhythm guitar). The band played their first official gig in November of 2022 and quickly began to build momentum. However, after a lineup change in 2023, Belgravia found its final form when Brody Walsh (lead guitar) joined the fold, completing the five-piece lineup.
The band’s name, Belgravia, comes from an unexpected source. "Brock used to drive through the suburb of Belmont on his daily commute and always liked the name ‘Belgravia,’" Jordan claims. "That was that. It stuck."
The Reception and What's Next?
Belgravia has been turning heads since their first release, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. "It’s been amazing," Jordan says. "We’ve made a name for ourselves in such a short time. The feedback from fans has been incredible. It’s reassuring to hear from people who’ve been in the scene for years, as well as from complete strangers who just happened to catch our set."
The band has developed a strong connection with their fans, something Jordan attributes to their inclusive attitude. "We just want everyone to feel welcome," he says. "We don’t care where you’re from, who you love, or how you define yourself. We want to have a fun time, and we hope you do too!"
Looking ahead, Belgravia is ready to take their career to the next level. "We’re planning to play bigger shows, release more music, and hopefully travel outside of Perth," Jordan reveals. "We’re also working on something new, a project we’re really excited about, but I can’t say too much just yet. It’s going to be our biggest endeavour yet!"
With the drive, passion, and talent they’ve already shown, it’s clear that Belgravia is a band to watch. Whether it’s their killer live shows or their upcoming releases, they’re poised to make a big impact on the Australian music scene and beyond.
