Late 90s has just unleashed their brand-new single, Intrepid, set for release on Friday, February 28th, and I was fortunate enough to get an exclusive listen ahead of its debut. To say my anticipation was high would be an understatement—I've been waiting for new music from these guys for what feels like forever, and I was ready for them to blow my expectations out of the water. And trust me, they did.

Song Review: Late 90s - "Intrepid"

From the moment the track kicked in, I was hooked. The energy is electric. The first few seconds felt like a rush of adrenaline—immediately, I was wide-eyed, glancing around the room to make sure everyone else was hearing what I was hearing. This wasn’t just another song; *Intrepid* is an absolute masterpiece. Every second felt like it was crafted with the utmost care and precision. The moment I pressed play, I was taken on a journey that didn’t let up until the last note rang out.

Let’s talk about the drums. The kit hits you like a freight train—powerful, raw, and undeniable. Each hit feels like it has weight, the way they’ve recorded it like is like water with the rest of the instrumentation. Credit to the production.  These aren’t just background elements; the drums are a driving force in this song, propelling it forward with the perfect amount of intensity.

Then, the guitars. If you’ve heard Late 90s before, you know they have a knack for crafting guitar tones that are as much about texture as they are about tone. In Intrepid, they've taken it to a whole new level. The guitars are bright and crisp, with this slightly gritty edge that gives the track a rawness, but they also have depth. The tones perfectly complement the energy of the drums and add this beautiful layer of complexity that elevates the whole experience.

But let's not forget the vocals. If you're familiar with Late 90s’ work, you already know that their lead vocalist has an incredible range. But in Intrepid, it’s on full display. The melodies are diverse, each note flowing effortlessly from high to low, capturing both the intensity of the music and the vulnerability of the lyrics. I can’t help but be completely captivated by the way their voice weaves through the track.

Speaking of the lyrics, they are nothing short of poetic. The words are thoughtful, clever, and introspective. Each verse feels intentional, and you can tell there's real heart behind every line. Whether it’s capturing a moment of personal reflection or conveying a broader theme, the lyrics stay with you long after the track ends.

One of the standout aspects of Intrepid is the breakdowns. These moments of musical contrast are so intelligently crafted. They’re not just there to shift the mood or add variety; every breakdown serves a purpose. Each one feels like a turn in the road, guiding the listener through the song’s emotional landscape with care and precision. There’s a certain fluidity in the way these sections are delivered, making the entire structure of the song feel incredibly cohesive. The arrangement feels effortless, yet it’s clearly the result of meticulous work.

I have to say, this track solidifies Intrepid as Late 90s’ strongest piece of work to date. The growth and evolution in their sound are undeniable, and I can only imagine what’s next for them. It’s an exciting time for fans because if this track is any indication, the future looks incredibly bright. And if you’ve never heard Late 90s live, well, Intrepid is going to be a game-changer when it hits the stage.

In fact, I’m already picturing it—imagine them at a show, the crowd’s energy building as the first notes of Intrepid begin. It’s the kind of song that, if the crowd hasn’t heard it yet, they’ll be immediately hooked. The moment that show finishes, everyone in the room will be scrambling to find it online, desperately searching for the name of the song they just experienced. And when they perform it at upcoming gigs with Neck Deep and State Champs, there’s no doubt in my mind it will be a monumental moment.

The crowd will be swept away by the power of the song, and it’ll become an anthem in that live space, something they’ll play over and over again in their heads long after the show ends. It’s that kind of track—one that has the potential to define a moment.

Intrepid is a declaration that Late 90s are here, and they’re ready to take on the world. This song is a statement of artistic evolution, musical maturity, and pure talent. I, for one, cannot wait to see what else they’ve got up their sleeves.
