The Foxy Junes - Interview
The Foxy Junes
Melbourne-based band The Foxy Junes are more than just a musical act—they’re a family bound together by a shared love for 70s-inspired music and the deep connections that come with it. Each member brings a unique background, and their stories of discovering music and love are as diverse as the sounds they create together. From classic rock to hip-hop, soul, R&B, and everything in between, The Foxy Junes are a fusion of influences that reflect their eclectic and soulful approach to performance.
Origins
At the heart of the Foxy Junes is a blend of individual journeys that intersected through their passion for music. Jonah, the band’s lead singer and keyboardist, comes from a classic rock background, heavily influenced by the legendary Sir Elton John. His love for the music of the 70s shines through in the way he connects with audiences, his voice echoing the rich, vibrant energy of an era that defined a generation.
Imran, the band’s drummer, brings a completely different flavour to the mix. Growing up immersed in hip-hop, soul, and R&B, his rhythms are infused with influences from Middle Eastern music as well. His beats reflect a fusion of sounds that transcend genres and create a dynamic backbone for the band’s music.
The Band's Collective Heart a Shared Love for the 70s
Where these diverse backgrounds converge is in the band’s deep-rooted love for all things 70s. From the music to the fashion and style, the spirit of the decade runs through The Foxy Junes like a pulse. It’s this shared admiration for the simplicity and authenticity of the era that laid the foundation for the band’s sound and identity.
"We just love playing music that resonates and satisfies our souls,” says the band. “It’s about connecting with every single person who’s watching us, bringing something real to the stage that speaks to their hearts.”
The Birth of The Foxy Junes
The journey to becoming The Foxy Junes began under the name Vann Amos. For a few years, the band played together as Vann Amos and the Finetics, with Jonah and Imran already in the lineup. However, the addition of Orlando (lead guitar and vocals) and Kirby was the spark that ignited something special. As the band began to solidify its lineup, it became clear that this new direction had something unique to offer.
Orlando, inspired by the band's 70s sound and the audiences they began to attract, came up with the name “The Foxy Junes.” The name perfectly encapsulated the vibe they were creating—a throwback to the past with a contemporary twist, evoking memories of glory days and timeless style.
The Final Piece: Marlo Joins the Band
But The Foxy Junes were still incomplete. Something was missing. Enter Marlo—keys and vocals—who became the final piece of the puzzle. With her addition, the band’s sound truly came together. As if everything had fallen into place, the group was now more than just a band; they were a unit, a family with a shared vision and an undeniable chemistry.
“It came together like bread and butter,” the band reflects. “Once Marlo joined, everything felt right. We had our harmonies, our full sound, and the energy we were looking for.”
“We just love playing music that resonates and satisfies our souls”
Career Defining Moments
A major milestone for the band came when they performed at NYE on the Hill, a festival that brought together some of the most talented names in the Australian music industry. For The Foxy Junes, it was a career-defining moment, a sign that they were headed in the right direction. Sharing their music with such a vibrant and passionate crowd gave them a sense of accomplishment that fuelled their ambition even further.
“It was such a privilege to share our art with everyone there,” they say. “We could feel the connection with the audience, and it made us realise that we’re on the right path. We’ve just played our first festival, and that feels huge. It’s the first of many, we hope.”
Looking Toward the Future
The excitement doesn’t stop there. As The Foxy Junes head into 2025, the future is bright with possibilities. With plans to release new music, perform at gigs everywhere, and launch merchandise, the band is ready to take the next steps in their journey. One of their biggest dreams is to embark on an east coast tour, bringing their 70s-inspired sounds to fans across the country.
“Everything feels so exciting right now,” the band shares. “We can’t wait to release new music, play more shows, and connect with more people. We want to take our music to as many places as we can and share this ride with everyone who’s along for it.”
For The Foxy Junes, 2025 promises to be a year of growth, new opportunities, and, above all, a chance to spread their love for music to the world. It’s the beginning of something big, and they can’t wait to bring their fans along for the ride.
